What is the correct way to force the system to send an invoice to a client. I’m trying to use:

uc_order_action_email($order, $settings);

But I keep getting:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function uc_price() in C:xampphtdocsYourEstablishmentsrcsitesallmodulesubercartpaymentuc_paymentuc_payment.module on line 149

It might be a flaw in the module. The function that it’s complaining about, uc_price, is defined in

ubercart/uc_store/includes/uc_price.ini

Since it’s located in a ini file, that means that drupal wont include it by it self. I’m not familiar with ubercart, since I’ve never used it, but it seems like this could be a bug in the module. If no one here can come up with an explanation, you should go to the issue tracker.

A quick fix to your problem would be to add this before you call the function

require_once(drupal_get_path(‘module’, ‘uc_store’) . ‘/includes/uc_price.inc’);

it will include the needed file.

I created a new solution with 3 projects:
My “Client” is a ASP.Net Web Application. This should display the information.
My Businesslayer should have all logic in it, it’s designed as a normal class libery.
My “Server” is a WebService. This connect via Linq to the database and get the Information.

Now only my Server knows Linq and knows the Database (how it should be).
But how can I give Linq Objects throug the WebService to my Business and my WebApp Layer to use it There?

For my understand there must be a way, because I have e.g. a complete user object with all needed Information with Linq, so I don’t must create a own one, must I?

Linq should be covered as well as database. Your business-logic layer and server should better have common core objects used in client-server calls: this also will provide you easy means to add some additional info that is not stored in DB (if needed in future).

I would recommend you to create internal classes corresponds to the linq entities and expose those objects through the web service instead. Then you create mapping methods within the service application to map between those types.

But isn’t it doubled then? So I have the one object via liny and the other object self made. Isn’t it smarter to make the linq classes in a fourth project and reference it to the business, client and server layer, so evereybody knows and I can send (maybe, I don’t know, it’s only an Idea) th linq objects through the weservcice?

– Kovu
Oct 6 ’09 at 9:36

Yes but you should maintain a separation from the consumers of your web service and what it uses internally. Otherwise you’ll be introducing unnecessary dependence in your clients. Don’t worry about copying the info until you specifically know its an issue.

– Preet Sangha
Oct 6 ’09 at 9:41

Sorry I must ask again, because I’m very new in Linq. I Read a lot of things about Linq in ASP.Net and e.g. how to very very easily bind a Linq object tot a gridview or somethink like this. When I use my own objects, isn’t it harder?

– Kovu
Oct 6 ’09 at 9:46

@Kovu: the idea is to separate the classes that are “hard-wired” to you database layout for LINQ from the classes exposed to the service consumers. If you send back those as IEnumerable<YourEntityClass> or IList<YourEntityClass>, the consumer can still use LINQ to query the lists and use the result for databinding, but there will not be a hard coupling all the way from the client to the database.

– Fredrik Mörk
Oct 6 ’09 at 10:47

Thats sounds great. You mean I must have an Object with the same Rows and datatypes of this rows on the client side? How I can go througt the WebService on the one side the Linq- and on the other side my Object? Do you have Code Examples for me?

Due to an added field in a MsSql Database, I have to change the records in a table from NULL to something more usefull.

I’ve got a table with addresses. Because customers have multiple addresses we’d like to mark certain addresses as default and others as something like shipping.

How can I, using a query, change only the first of every address to “Default” and every other to “Shipping”? Every address has a foreign key relation to the Customers table thru a CustomerId.

It doesn’t really matter which one is made default, as long as one is default and the rest something else. Just to be able to edit the default address in thru the UI of our application and show a table with every other adress.

Assuming that Address table uses a surrogate primary key that is integer based (like an IDENTITY column), and if you really don’t care which one gets marked as DEFAULT, you could do something like the following (which updates the row with the lowest integer value as the DEFAULT).

DECLARE @Addresses TABLE
(
AddressID INT ,
CustomerID INT ,
AddressType VARCHAR(8)
)

INSERT INTO @Addresses
( AddressID ,
CustomerID ,
AddressType
)
SELECT 1 ,
1 ,
NULL –Client 1 has 3 addresss
UNION ALL
SELECT 2 ,
1 ,
NULL
UNION ALL
SELECT 3 ,
1 ,
NULL
UNION ALL
SELECT 4 ,
2 ,
NULL –Client 2 has 1 addresses
UNION ALL
SELECT 5 ,
3 ,
NULL –Client 3 has 2 addresses
UNION ALL
SELECT 6 ,
3 ,
NULL

SELECT *
FROM @Addresses a

–update an arbitrary address ASSUMING that you used an integer for a surrogate primary key
UPDATE @Addresses
SET AddressType = CASE WHEN AddressID IN ( SELECT MIN(AddressID)
FROM @Addresses a
GROUP BY a.CustomerID ) THEN ‘Default’
ELSE ‘Shipping’
END

SELECT *
FROM @Addresses a

Depends what is first. Do you rows have such a concept such as date etc to order them. Remember a query will use zero or more indexes to get to your data. The ordering of these is becomes a factor also. If you drop the indexes then the order the data will will be the only factor.

It may be possible that your server uses a different name for the distributed configuration files that’s default name is .htaccess (see AccessFileName directive). It’s best you simply ask your provider.

Here’s a crazy thought: install 3.1 on your iPhone so you can test your app and keep your client happy. Exactly how long would it take you to install 3.1?

The first log, there’s just not enough info in the stack to say why it crashed. It seems most likely that some UI element was released somewhere and still being referenced, though that is kind of a wild guess.

The second one though, is telling you that when the user pressed the lock button while in your app, it took too long to return from the method that processed the notification the application was suspending – so it was killed. You need to check whatever method you have activating on suspend and see what is taking so long to run there.

On second log: I have not implemented the “applicationWillResignActive” or “applicationDidBecomeActive” methods in my app. What else could be causing this?

I have a flex application which collects data entered by the user and posts it off to a web service I have running on a back end server. The flex application does not authenticate users (it’s available for anyone to use without setting up an account) and communicates to the web service using HTTPS.

There is an XML firewall in place for preventing certain malformed requests, DoS attacks etc and the web service validates all data received from the client.

If I was to sign the content then I could use the XML firewall to verify the signature but I assume that any certificate type data I embed in the client could be extracted out of the flex app through some means of de-compilation.

My question is, is there any way of limiting calls to the web service to only those from my flex client? I understand that a user could input bad information but I’m really trying to prevent another client or ‘bot’.

If I were to introduce having user accounts to take advantage of a session based solution then presumably I still face the same issue when I’m trying to set up the account in the first place (would have to still be done in the flex app)?

Like TheBrain mentioned, the crossdomain.xml file is where you need to start, but this only keeps other flash based applications away. His idea about the random id is also a good one but I could see that being rather complicated to implement. You could implement user accounts only having those accounts set up through some other means than the flex application (something presumably more secure).

Another way would be to have a shared password between the application and the webservice side, and encrypt that password on both sides using some sort of salt that both sides could know. My first instinct is to think of a time based salt. You could pass the timestamp from the flex application along with the rest of the request and then take your password and the same timestamp concatenated together in someway, hash it and pass that along as well. In the webservice when you get the request, you take the same password (not passed with the request in the clear) and the timestamp that was passed and hash it using the same algorithm. Then compare. If they match then it is an authenticated request. You could even store a dictionary of passwords, and use a different one for each day of the week or something like that. Just however you do it, make sure that your two methods of determining the hashed password is identical. This should provide enough security for most applications. Let me know if any of this needs clarification or if I have misunderstood the question.

After re-reading your question, I see you are worried about decompilation. I don’t have an answer for this off the top of my head. You could potentially store the password outside of the application and read it in, but that doesn’t solve the problem of the person decompiling to be able to read that file. I will think some more on this and see if I can come up with something to guard against that.

you can add a crossdomain.xml to your server so then only your flex app can access your domain service and…you can generate some random id when you show the webpage and give it to the flex app as a parameter. so when the flex app makes the first service call, the id should be there. with the service response, generate another id and send it back to the flex to use it with the future call and so on.

For a datagrid you can override the DrawRowBackground method of the datagrid to do custom backgrounds. I assume there would be something similar to that for the advanceddatagrid.

Depending on your requirements, there’s several options that I have been using myself:

if you don’t need hot backups, take down the db server and back up on the file system level, i. e. using tar, rsync or similar.
if you do need the database server to keep running, you can start out with the mysqlhotcopy tool (a perl script), which locks the tables that are being backed up and allows you to select single tables and databases.
if you want the backup to be portable, you might want to use mysqldump, which creates SQL scripts to recreate the data, but which is slower than mysqlhotcopy
if you have a copy of the db at a certain point in time, you could also just keep the binlogs (starting at that point in time) somewhere safe. This can be very easy to do and doesn’t interfere with the server’s operation, but might not be the fastest to restore, and you have to make sure you don’t miss part of the logs.

Methods I haven’t tried, but that make sense to me:

if you have a filesystem like ZFS or are running on LVM, it might be a good idea to do a snapshot of the database by doing a filesystem snapshot, because they are very, very quick. Just remember to ensure a consistent state of your db during the whole operation, e. g. by doing FLUSH TABLES WITH READ LOCK (and of course, don’t forget UNLOCK TABLES afterwards)

Additionally:

you can use a master-slave setup to replicate your production server to either a different machine or a second instance on the same machine and do any of the above to the replicated copy, leaving your production machine alone. Instead of running continously, you can also fire up the slave on regular intervals, let it read the binlog, and switch it off again.
I think, MySQL cluster and the enterprise licensed version have more tools, but I have never tried them.

Mysqlhotcopy is badly described – it only works if you use MyISAM, and it’s not hot.

The problem with mysqldump is the time it takes to restore the backup (but it can be made hot if you have all InnoDB tables, see –single-transaction).

I recommend using a hot backup tool, like what is available in XtraBackup:

Watch out if using mysqldump on large tables using the MyISAM storage engine; it blocks selects while the dump is running on each table and this can take down busy sites for 5-10 minutes in some cases.

Using InnoDB, by comparison, you get non-blocking backups because of its row-level locking, so this is not such an issue.

If you need to use MyISAM, a common strategy is to replicate to a second MySQL instance and do the mysqldump against the replicated copy instead.

There’s actually no “the” proper way. As Flubba rightly points out, mysqldump locks the tables, which can be unpleasant in production. It’s also slower than, for example, mysqlhotcopy.

Loads, and executes, a local
JavaScript file using an HTTP GET
request.

Example:

$.getScript(“test.js”, function(){
alert(“Script loaded and executed.”);
$(‘#myDiv’).load(‘some.html’);
});

The app I’m working on uses a library that generates a lot of INFO level messages I don’t want to log. But the rest of the app and libraries produce INFO level messages I need to log.

How can I setup log4net so that all INFO messages are logged except for one logger that need to log only at WARN or above ? All messages need to be logged in the same files.

I don’t know how I have missed this, thought I tried it but I guess I didn’t. Anyway, thanks a lot, that works.
